Work
Castro was first introduced to visual arts through his mother, who has a passion for cameras and expanding their family archive, and his father, who was a painter before immigrating to America. While analyzing their work, Castro noticed themes of grief, gender, immigration, and familial memory. His work, which is an exploration of his relationship to identity, heritage, and generational trauma, offer Castro a means to contextualize his familial experiences and eternalize formative memories that continue to shape who he is. Through his artistic practice, Stefano aims to facilitate spaces of healing for him, his family, and other Latine people who can relate to their experiences.
